90-day manufacturer's warranty

Cat Shields carry a 90-day warranty against defects that prevent proper installation or function. Warranty requires proof of purchase from an authorized retailer (millercat.com or Amazon).

What's not covered

  • Surface appearance — please read before purchasing. Cat Shields are raw stainless steel and aluminum components. They are not painted, powder coated, or finished. Mill marks, minor scratches, surface oxidation, and manufacturing residue are inherent characteristics of these materials and are present on every unit we ship. This is expected and normal. Products that show these characteristics are not defective and are not eligible for a return or warranty claim.
  • Damage from improper installation, road debris, or modification
  • Labor, diagnostics, or incidental costs

Theft deterrence

Cat Shields are a deterrence device designed to significantly increase the difficulty of converter theft — not to make it impossible. Given enough time and tools, a determined thief may still succeed. We have extensive customer accounts and video evidence of derailed theft attempts.

Will the shield interfere with maintenance such as engine oil and transmission fluid changes?

All Miller CAT Cat Shields will not interfere with your oil changes. Some vehicles will require the shield to be removed for transmission fluid changes. Check your maintenance schedule on how frequently to change your transmission fluid. For Toyota vehicles, Toyota's recommendation is 30-60k miles and 60-100k miles depending on your vehicle and driving habits.

Does this shield cause the converter to overheat?

No, our shields will not cause overheating or damage to your vehicle. In addition to shields, we manufacture catalytic converters, so we know how to protect them without damaging the converter or your vehicle. Read about this in more detail.

How long does it take to ship?

We know you can’t wait long to protect your converters when theft is so rampant. Here at Miller CAT, our shields are made to stock and ready to ship. Unlike many other companies that make shields to order, we fulfill orders in 1-2 business days and if possible, on the same day.

Installed in about 30 minutes!

Just had my Catalytic converter stolen a few weeks ago. Friend recommended the Cat Shield from Miller, so I ordered the steel version & the special-tool hardware.

Got my car back from the shop after insurance replaced the Catalytic Converter ($3500 in California).

Lifted the Prius up on some Jack's and got right to work installing the shield. Watched a YouTube video before getting started, and then got it done in about 30 minutes. Hardest part for me was trying to put the thread lock onto the screws while laying under the car!

Stainless steel MillerCat shield for 2013 Prius

The shield is fantastic! I took my Prius to a muffler shop for the install. The crew said the directions were easy to follow, it only took them 30 minutes to install. (In fact, they stated it was much easier than other brands they’ve previously installed.)

I highly suggest NOT taking your car to the Toyota dealership for the install. Yes, I realize they are considered “certified” installers but when I called the Toyota dealership for a price quote- they stated it would cost $385!! When I asked why it would be so high (knowing from these comments that the average install time is 30 minutes, w/ the proper tools and lift) they claimed it would take them 2.5 hours to install! So no, I do not suggest taking your car to the dealership. They will rip you off. There are plenty of reputable companies/businesses that can assist. Just call and ask if they have experience installing catalytic shields. Easy.

Since the install, I worry much less about leaving my car unattended. Most thieves will see the stainless steel shield, and will move onto the next car. It’s too time consuming and can be too loud for them to attempt to saw it off your car without drawing attention to themselves.
I’ve had no issues with rattling or any noise.

The stainless steel plate should be a good deterrent. V2 Cat Sheild seems to be a quality product. Installation relatively easy especially if car 🚗 is on a service station lift. The real proof will be if my CAT converter stays intact. Time will tell.

Front threaded holes too tight...

OK, the Miller gen 3, v2 Cat Shield gets credit for not needing to drill holes like some other ones make you do. And the engineers thought out the front backing plate with the threaded holes which allow for a good strong and safe mounting.

BUT -- the stainless bolts going into threaded aluminum material is a disaster waiting to happen. I am an experienced mechanic, so I lined the front backing plate up very carefully, using the small bolts and then tightened the 10mm nut. I then removed the small 6mm bolts and attempted to install the main shield. On two of the 4 bolts, it just proved impossible to get the threads started. I worked and worked until the M6 bolts were cross threaded.

In my case, I have a 6mm tap and after cleaning up the threads, the slightly larger female threads in the aluminum accepted the M6 bolts without a problem. Had I been a novice with no tools, I would have been left with cross threaded bolts.

I am suprised this problem has not occurred to more installs.

What an odd thing to review

I think the only way to give a product like this five stars is to have some kind of proof that a thief got under my car with the intent to steal my catalytic converter then, when he saw the shield, decided against it. That would warrant a five star review. I also can’t give it a single star because no one has stolen my catalytic converter since I had the shield installed. So, assuming that somewhere in between there is appropriate, you guys get three stars

Easy Install

Processing and delivery were on time, Personal install was straight forward with the vehicle placed on jack stands. One Nut had a flaw in manufacturing. Security Nut driver had to be press on to security nut and after installed tapped vigorously to dislodge nut driver. Overall went well approximately 1 hour of my time.
